The selection is showcased at the prestigious ISPO Munich Textrends Exhibition, a global reference in the sports and outdoor sector.
Ecocel® is a sewing thread made from Lyocel fibres by Lenzing AG, derived from sustainable wood sources and produced through a low-impact process. Made entirely from wood pulp, this thread is distinguished by its high strength and excellent stretching properties, while also being natural, vegan, biodegradable, recyclable and eco-friendly. Its closed-loop production process allows for the recovery and reuse of more than 99% of the solvent used, ensuring a significantly reduced ecological footprint.
“Ecocel® was created to meet the footwear sector’s need for a natural fibre sewing thread with high strength and optimal stretching, as an alternative to conventional natural fibres. Through several months of trial and error, the required performance was achieved based on our extensive experience, with a cellulosic fibre suggested for development. Specific tests of thickness, number of strands and twist were conducted, from which three numbers were developed and combined to deliver the best results for applications ranging from upper fabrics to the sole.”
Ecocel® is part of our sustainable sewing thread range, which currently represents over 30% of our portfolio, further strengthening our ongoing commitment to responsible innovation and sustainable development.
