Since 1981, Realfio has established itself as one of the leading national players in the production of high-quality sewing, embroidery, and footwear threads. With a wide range of natural, synthetic, cellulosic, recycled, and organic fibres, the brand meets the most diverse market needs.
All Realfio® threads are produced exclusively in its own facilities, located in northern Portugal, considered the heart of the country’s textile industry. This commitment to local production ensures maximum flexibility and proximity to customers.
Ecocel®
Sustainable footwear sewing thread recognised by ISPO Textrends Spring/Summer 2025
Ecocel® is an innovative sewing thread, specially developed for the footwear industry.
Responding to a need identified by footwear manufacturers, Realfio created a highly resistant natural fibre with excellent stretching capacity, outperforming conventional natural fibres.
To achieve the required performance, Lyocell cellulosic fibre from Lenzing AG, derived from sustainable wood sources, was used. This process is highly eco-friendly, with more than 99% of the solvent recovered and reused. Ecocel® has undergone rigorous tests of thickness, number of strands, and twist, resulting in three variations – 8, 12, and 18 – offering optimal performance, from the upper fabric to the shoe sole.
In addition to its high performance, Ecocel® is a vegan, eco-friendly, and biodegradable sewing thread, reflecting Realfio’s commitment to sustainability and innovation.
Lurex®
Metallic embroidery with exclusive shine
Realfio is the exclusive distributor in Portugal of the renowned Lurex® embroidery threads, recognised for their metallic and glossy finish.
Made from a polyester film coated with a metallic layer of aluminium, silver or gold, Lurex® thread provides a sophisticated and luminous appearance.
The twisted and coated Lurex® yarns are ideal for use in embroidery machines and multi-head sewing machines, perfect for creating high-quality metallic stitch designs.
